Happenings
- For the ’24-’25 school year, we have 24 teacher participants across 4 states. Each participant will create and implement a STEM multimodal text set with their students to promote the development of scientific argumentation when engaging with complex texts.
- During a week in July, we had a week long, virtual professional development diving into text set instruction, scaffolding, and cross-disciplinary practices.
- Since September, we have held 3 follow-up professional development sessions to continually support our participants’ cross-disciplinary instruction. We discussed incorporating scaffolds that address claim-evidence-reasoning and quantitative reasoning, analyzing student writing, and using student assessments to inform instruction and scaffolding.
- Peer mentorship is a new addition to our program that provides our participants with further support from their peers.
- A new STEM topic complex text has been created! Dr. Bath’s Visionary Patent discusses how a medical invention removes eye cataracts and helps those with impaired vision.
- We are making headlines! Check out what news sources have been saying about our program!
- Our team participated in an EdWeek panel discussion, titled The Literacy Demands of the Science Classroom, led by Sarah Sparks (Assistant Editor, Education Week). Learn more here!
- We have FREE teacher resources available on our website! Please check these out here!
